Who first colonized America? Until a few years ago, it was believed that the first American culture was that of the Clovis, the ancestors of the native inhabitants of North America. It was also believed that humans arrived on this continent about 14,000 years ago.
Therefore, in this “reconstruction” of history, the first civilizations would be the North American ones, while the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas would come much later.
Recent discoveries, including DNA analysis, have highlighted how archeology has gone wrong again. The first civilizations of the Americas were the Central and South American peoples, at least 15,000-20,000 years earlier than thought. And these populations came BY SEA (yes, you read that correctly, “by sea”), from Siberia and Sundaland. This is the continent that is disappearing due to warming, corresponding to present-day Indonesia and the surrounding islands.
Around 2020 actually. some researchers published the results of the discovery of human remains in the Chiquihuite cave in Mexico. Excavations began in 2012. Larger excavations were carried out in 2016 and 2017. The work was published in the journal Nature.
What was found in the cave completely revolutionized the opinion of archaeologists. The study, presented by Ciprian Ardelean, an archaeologist at the Autonomous University of Zacatecas (Mexico), and his colleagues, shows that humans lived in central Mexico at least 26,500 years ago. The professor says: “It takes centuries, or millennia, for them to cross Beringia and arrive in the middle of Mexico. “Later he adds, “It takes many years of previous presence to bring them there whether they came by sea or land. This means that humans were probably in Central America well before 30,000 years ago.
But that’s not all. Another research center has found that indigenous populations in Central and South America do not have just one ancestor, but two.
So to speak, they have a “mother nation”. It is defined as “population Y”. They are the original inhabitants of Sundaland from the distant past, around the time of the thaw. But they also have “father people”, who are the Inuit, coming from Siberia.
These discoveries fundamentally revolutionized all archaeological beliefs about America’s past. Who owned the oldest ruins found in these lands? Which ancient civilization was able to create structures on top of the Andes? Who created the giant Nazca paintings and above all for what purpose? And above all: if 30,000 years ago people could travel from Australia to Central America, what prevented them from going from Central America to Egypt, as various evidence now seems to show?
