Atlanta, United States of America (CNN) – An American court sentenced, on Friday, to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, former lawyer Alex Murdough, after he was convicted of killing his wife and son, by shooting in 2021.
During the sentencing hearing for Murdoch, scion of the famous South Carolina law family, Judge Clifton Newman said he had to remove a picture of Murdoch’s grandfather from the courtroom to ensure a fair trial.
During the hearing, the judge added, “You have a wife who has been murdered, and a son who has been brutally murdered. A lawyer, someone from a respected family who has served justice in this community for over a century.”
The judge continued, “A person hangs a portrait of his grandfather in the back of the courtroom which I had to order to be removed in order to ensure a fair trial by both the judges and the defence.”
Murdog was a lawyer and scion of an influential family in South Carolina, where his father and grandparents worked as a local attorney general from 1920 to 2006.
Murdog’s wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, 22, were found shot dead on the family’s property on June 7, 2021. Murdog claimed he found the bodies after returning from a brief visit to his ailing mother that night.
