American Airlines Flight 1272 from San Diego to Dallas was forced to make an emergency landing at LAX after one of the plane’s engines failed, according to an X user who claims to be a relative of two passengers on board.

Terrified X user Jack posted a screenshot on Tuesday at 12:16pm of what he thought would be the last message he would receive from his wife, who was on board the plane with their son.

“My world is on that plane: wife and son,” Jack said in a follow-up tweet.

About half an hour after his initial tweet, Jack reported that the plane had landed successfully.

“I’m not sure what happened with the plane, but I’m glad the pilots seemed to handle the situation,” he said.

In a statement to DailyMail.com, American Airlines said: ‘American Airlines Flight 1272, operating from San Diego (SAN) to Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) has diverted to Los Angeles (LAX) due to a possible mechanical issue.

“The aircraft landed safely and taxied to the gate where our maintenance team is currently conducting an inspection. Safety is our top priority and we apologize to our customers for any inconvenience.”

The plane, which was an Airbus, was carrying 189 passengers and six crew members. The flight will continue to DFW this afternoon using a different aircraft.

About half an hour after his initial tweet, Jack confirmed that the plane had landed successfully.

This incident comes shortly after another. An American Airlines flight from Boston to Rochester was forced to make an emergency landing after smoke was detected in the cabin.

The flight was forced to land at Syracuse Hancock International Airport in Syracuse, New York, following the incident.

The plane, an Embraer RJ145, landed without incident and was taken to the boarding gate by the airport’s fire and rescue teams.

The 48 passengers on board the flight were then transferred by bus from Syracuse to Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport.
