Authorities are investigating the death of an Amazon employee after being run over in Staten Island.
According to the New York City Police, the 24-year-old was walking near Gulf Avenue, around 11:30 pm on Saturday, when she was hit by a Honda Accord.
A preliminary investigation determined that the victim was trying to cross 5th Street at the time of the accident. The 19-year-old driver, who was traveling west, stayed at the scene and has not yet faced charges, police said.
The woman was taken to the University of Richmond Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Police have not released the identity of the victim until the family can be notified.
A company spokesperson confirmed that the woman worked for Amazon.
“Our condolences to the family and loved ones of our employee during this tragic moment, and we will continue to support the authorities throughout the investigation,” the statement read.
