Thanks to the company Mo’cycle, we have just reached an additional level in terms of protective equipment. The Swedish company has indeed just lifted the veil on what could become a flagship product: jeans fitted with airbags, supposed to considerably cushion any falls by bikers and bikers.
The principle? A carbon dioxide cartridge inserted in the famous pants, which releases its gas as soon as the pilots begin to fall from their faithful steed. Outside of fall situations, the garment in question looks perfectly normal, and it has all the usual features – abrasion resistance, waterproof and breathable.
The idea is not to change the habits or the appearance of the users, but to insert a good dose of protection in a practice where falls are not forgiving. To be able to use jeans developed by Mo’cycle, you simply have to connect them to the motorcycle using an elastic clip: thanks to this system, this smart garment is then able to understand as quickly as possible – a few milliseconds – that there is there’s cabriole in the air.
Easy to (re)use
It is important to specify that no particular adaptation of the machine is necessary, and that the elastic fixing is detached immediately in the event of an imminent fall: it would not be a question of ending up crushed under his motorcycle, or dragged by that -this. The system has been perfectly studied: it seems impossible for the airbag to be triggered by mistake. Only a real fall is likely to initiate its activation.
In a promotional video, the founder of Mo’cycle, Moses Sharhivar, explains that he began at the age of 21 to develop protective pants for motorcyclists and motorcyclists. These, made of leather and Kevlar, were quickly sold in Sweden by Harley-Davidson. But the inventor wanted to go further and address the issue of impact with bitumen. Hence his project of airbags for jeans.
Such equipment obviously has a price: launched in a few days, the famous pants will be offered at 499 dollars, or around 468 euros. Let everyone be reassured: very resistant, it is not rendered unusable by an airbag deployment. The jeans developed by Mo’cycle are reusable: simply refill them with a new CO cartridge2.
