There is a lack of vaccine, which is why there was a lot of criticism of the vaccine procurement measures in Switzerland. Andrin Oswald (50), the external delegate for vaccine procurement who negotiated with the vaccine manufacturers for Switzerland, defends himself in the Sunday view now against the accusation that Switzerland acted too hesitantly in the competition for the corona vaccination:

“We were pursuing an aggressive plan.”

As early as May, Switzerland took a sum in hand for the Moderna vaccine that, compared to the population, was larger than that invested by the USA, says the former negotiator. The strategy was to get quick access to the best possible vaccines – like other leading countries. To be faster than everyone else was never the plan.

Oswald, however, also has a suggestion to achieve a higher pace in Bern in the future: “A crisis management team would be needed. Without this, you cannot react efficiently to a crisis, ”says Oswald.

Long Covid: Young women especially affected

How dangerous the coronavirus is and why it is therefore important to vaccinate is known above all to those who have been hit particularly hard by the disease, the Long-Covid patients. More and more research is therefore concentrating on these cases instead of just looking at the death rates. as research by the NZZ am Sonntag shows.

A study from China of 1,700 hospitalized patients shows that 76 percent of them still had at least one symptom six months later. Many of them are young women. Gregory Fretz, doctor for internal medicine at the Kantonsspital Chur, says:

“Those affected look healthy, you can’t tell the suffering from them, and that makes it so difficult for the social environment or the employer.”

Fretz leads a consultation hour for Long Covid. «We see a lot of young, ambitious people who like to work. They all tell us the exact same story. ” Fretz is convinced: “Long Covid is not a mental illness.” Experts assume that the Covid-19 pandemic will inevitably produce a wave of chronically ill people who evade traditional medical diagnostic methods.

Employees accuse Selecta of cheating on short-time work

While some are suffering severely from the consequences of the disease, many other people fear for their jobs in this corona crisis and are therefore easy prey for those who like to take advantage of this situation. Several Selecta employees describe this in the «NZZ on Sunday»how your employer abuses short-time working allowances.

At the beginning of the corona crisis, a department head allegedly asked his team directly to stamp 50%, but to work 100%. In the meantime, the pressure is exerted more subtle: teams would agree to only work part-time. But superiors also organized meetings at times when, according to the official time and attendance records, no one was allowed to work.

The Selecta media office wrote in the “NZZ am Sonntag”: “The responsible authority has carried out several tests. No irregularities were found. ” Selecta take the advice seriously and follow it up.

So far, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) has received a total of 739 reports of abuse from various companies. From May the controls will be intensified – 45 external experts will then support the Seco auditors in combating abuse. The more than 100,000 companies for which no abuse report has been received are checked in random samples. The federal government expects that up to 4,200 companies will receive short-time allowances without justification.
