Three times last week, firefighters extinguished overgrown grass, rushed to help when soot caught fire in two chimneys, and rescued an apartment that caught fire. In April, 26 fires were registered in the Gargžda PGT, and 67 since the beginning of the year.
On the night of Friday in Gargždai, Klaipėdos st. in the kitchen of an apartment building, gas leaked out and caught fire after a leak appeared near the gas stove. The kitchen walls and ceiling were burnt, the furniture was burnt, the staircase was full of smoke.
According to Gargžda PGT chief specialist Arūnas Armalis, this year a second similar event was registered in the Klaipėda region. “Previously, this happened in a private residential building, but the owner noticed it in time and turned on the gas,” said the official.
There were 3 grass fires last week. On Sunday afternoon, a report was received about burning grass in Šlapšile. When the firefighters arrived, they saw an abandoned 5-hectare meadow on fire. They could not get there – they reached the fire station on foot. In this area, not only the uncut grass, but also the bushes and all the animals that were there were blown up.
