An abandoned building burns down in Saint-Roch

About 65 firefighters were busy putting out a fire that broke out in an abandoned building located at 325 rue Lalemant, at the corner of rue Dorchester, in Quebec City.

Currently for rent, the two-story building was empty when the fire broke out around 5 p.m. Monday evening.

These are witnesses who called the Fire Protection Service of Quebec City (SPCIQ) when they saw thick black smoke coming out of the roof and the second floor.

Shortly after the work of the sappers began, the front facade of the building collapsed.

Due to the high risk of propagation to adjacent buildings and the power of the fire, alarms quickly followed one another. Around 5:30 p.m., a fourth alarm was given, indicating the participation of 65 firefighters.

“We have perforating jets and teams on the roofs of neighboring buildings to prevent them from also falling prey to the flames,” specifies Bill Noonan, spokesperson for the SPCIQ.

Investigators went to the scene to determine the origin of the blaze.

At around 7:30 p.m., the bulk of the flames were brought down, and the unlikely worsening was announced.
