The vigilance that surrounds the spread of the H5N1 virus all over the world can sometimes seem inadequate and too restrictive, but unfortunately, this disease is still transmissible to humans, although cases are relatively rare.
However, the bird flu virus is not to be taken lightly when a human being is infected because this Wednesday, February 22, an 11-year-old girl died after contracting H5N1.
The girl’s symptoms were observed on February 16 in a Cambodian village called Roleang.
Her health deteriorated rapidly and unfortunately the results of the tests identifying the disease as avian flu did not save her.
While many outbreaks have been declared for several years all over the world, the French government warns of the risks linked to avian flu and recalls that the situation has deteriorated since August 2022:
“The health situation with regard to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in France has deteriorated since August 2022. In recent weeks, there has been a drop in the incidence on farms. Current climatic conditions (lower temperatures and sunshine, higher humidity, etc.) however favor the survival of the virus in the environment. Significant mortalities are observed in wildlife. »
