Died of alcohol poisoning 10 years ago.
Friday marks 10 years since English jazz singer Amy Winehouse died at just 27 years old. She is still well remembered to this day for the music, and the deep voice, which still resounds from speakers around the world in a characteristic, unique fusion of jazz, soul, R&B, pop and blues.
On July 23, 2011, Winehouse was found dead in her own home in London, after she died of alcohol poisoning. Then she had five times as high per mille that is legal to drive in the UK and above a level that was lethal.

Winehouse had struggled with alcohol and doping problems for several years before her death, but according to her father, Mitch has managed to put the addictions behind her during the months before she died.
– Amy had stopped drinking, but started again the week she died, the family said in a statement after her death was legally considered an accident, and ruled out suicide and a criminal act.
In 2011, she was described as a young, troubled star «gone too soon», by the music magazine Rolling Stones.

Although Winehouse is said to have started sorting out the alcohol problems in the months before her tragic death, the problems had followed the star for a long time.
Now, 10 years later, an interview Winehouse did way back in 2003 has seen the light of day after it was shared with the British The Sun and put both the family and the fans in shock.
In the interview, Winehouse admits that she drank alcohol every single day, and that she started drinking alcohol already as a 12-year-old.

– I drink every single day, but usually not Jack Daniel’s. I’ve been drinking Jack Daniel’s for eight years, Winehouse said in the interview before continuing:
– Everyone knows that, it’s like Jack and Cola together. Like when you were younger and wanted to get a little more drunk than everyone else, then you drink whiskey. You know it as a child.
Winehouse goes on to list all the other booze she likes as she walks down a street in Camden in north London, where she lived.
– And Dooley’s toffee vodka. My God, I could easily drink a bottle of it every night.
During the interview, one also hears that she pushes into another on the street in Camden, where she shouts at the person.
– Stay away from me, you “freak”, she shouts before apologizing to the interviewer and says there are many “freaks” in Camden.

Best Female Artist
Winehouse’s troubled life and her tragic death is, of course, what comes to mind when one thinks back. But her career is also one of music history’s most talented and influential musicians and songwriters.
Winehouse won five “Grammy” awards for her 2006 album “Back to Black” and received recognition for the song “Love Is a Losing Game”.

The album became one of the best-selling albums in the UK, and is still in 12th place, right in front of Madonna’s “The Immaculate Collection”.
In addition, in 2008 she set a record for the number of “Grammy” awards won by a female artist with five awards, and was entered in the Guinness Book of Records. To this day, Beyonce and Adele have taken over the record with six awards.
Four of the five awards were of the so-called “big four”: Best new artist, album of the year, song of the year (for the song “Rehab”) and best vocal pop album.
