Amy Schumer, 42, has been diagnosed with a rare health disorder.
The comedienne applied for examinations after her swollen face was puzzled in the media. After tests, Schumer was diagnosed with Cushing’s syndrome.
Cushing’s is caused by an excessive amount of the stress hormone cortisol in the body. Symptoms include weight gain, rounding of the face and high blood pressure. The syndrome can be fatal if left untreated.

According to the National Institutes of Health, about 40-70 people out of a million suffer from Cushing’s. In other words, the syndrome is extremely rare.
Schumer made headlines earlier this month when fans pointed out her altered appearance in a promo for the Hulu series Life & Beth.
– When I appeared in front of the cameras for my Hulu series, I also underwent MRIs in four-hour sessions. My veins constricted from all the blood collected from me. All I could think about was that I might not be there to see my son grow up, Schumer commented.
