Amsterdam scooter sharing company Felyx loses license, fights back with petition

The scooter sharing company Felyx is not allowed to hire scooters in the city from 1 April. The company from Amsterdam that has been offering electric scooters since 2017 lost the offer to other suppliers. The company will not leave it at that time and today they visited the alderman to present a petition on behalf of more than five thousand residents of Amsterdam.

The fact that Felyx lost the license is painful, according to CEO Daan Becker. “It’s surprising, especially when you see other scooters driving by,” he says from the Stopera. There he and two colleagues presented a petition to councilor Melanie van der Horst today. “We believe that mistakes were made in the bidding process and we would like it to be looked at again. So that we don’t have to go out of town unfairly.” The complaints committee will come to a decision on this next week.

Almost three weeks after the scooters disappeared from the city, you can still see a scooter on various street corners. According to Becker, the removal of the scooters is much slower because they have to release about thirty workers. “We are not happy with it either, because sometimes it causes inconvenience and the risk of vandalism does not increase. But we are doing it as soon as we can,” said Becker.

In other towns such as Amstelveen and Diemen you can still rent a Felyx, so you will come across driving scooters here too. “You can also drive into Amsterdam and park. If, for example, you have to go into a shop. You have to park outside the city.” The city has given Felyx until the end of the month. After that, all the scooters must have disappeared.
