Travelers who want to travel to Amsterdam North by public transport in the coming days should expect delays. This is due to a flooded metro tunnel and a collapsed quay at the ferry dock.
The problems arose yesterday afternoon, writes NH. Then the metro tunnel that goes from Amsterdam Central to North filled with water due to a burst pipe. Metro traffic was therefore disrupted. Transport company GVB expects that the timetable will not be resumed until Sunday. Until then, shuttle buses will run between the North metro stop and Amsterdam Central Station.
Sagging quay
Another way to get to Amsterdam North from the city center is by taking the ferry across the IJ. But because the quay of one of the mooring places in that part of the city collapsed today, the ferries can no longer moor there. The GVB expects that repair work will take at least two days. Travelers are advised to travel with a different ferry.
But that is also a bit more difficult after today: the GVB has five of the fourteen ferries taken out of service due to technical problems. One of them can probably be used again on Friday, the recovery of the other four will take about two weeks.
