Amsterdam experiences second power outage in two days, affecting large parts of the city

A large part of West, Nieuw-West and the west side of the center were again without power for a short time tonight. It is the second time in two days that a large part of the city was in the dark. A total of 57,000 connections were briefly without power.

Around 9:40 p.m., the lights went out for a large proportion of Amsterdam residents. AT5 received reports that it concerned the Jordaan, part of the Canal Belt, De Baarsjes, Geuzenveld, Sloterdijk and Oud-West. The lights were also out near Dam Square. About ten minutes later the power outage seemed to be resolved and the lights came back on.

Hemweg again

Yesterday the power went out in the area, in the morning. At least 21 zip codes were affected. As a result, 68,000 connections were without power. The trams were also not running. According to a spokesperson, the problem was with one of the installations at the electricity station on Hemweg, which had failed.

Tonight’s power outage was also at the electricity station on Hemweg. It is not yet clear what exactly caused it. Liander still has to investigate this.
