Amsterdam Customer Service Employee Suspected in Elderly Fraud Scheme

A 21-year-old resident of Amsterdam is suspected of being involved in defrauding more than twenty elderly people. He is said to have found the victims through his work as a temporary worker in the customer service department of a company.

Police suspect he shared the personal information with others, with or without payment. Along with the others, he then claimed that he was guilty of fraud and theft from homes. Victims were called and visited at home by people posing as police officers or telecommunications company employees.

In most cases, criminals of similar chat schemes use personal data found on the dark web. According to the Public Prosecution Service (OM), this is the first time in Amsterdam that a customer service employee is believed to have intentionally used personal data from the customer base for fraud.

“It appears that data from the company’s database was used to select victims from across the country, gain their trust and then take money and goods from them,” said the Public Prosecution Service. ‘ company filed a report against the man for computer crime.

The Amsterdam resident was arrested on April 22. His phones were confiscated when he was arrested. The police then found photographs with personal data of very old customers of the company.
