The images show, among other things, how the driver is roughly grabbed by the neck. Later the perpetrator even stands on his head. It is not yet entirely clear what preceded the violence. The GVB does study images recorded by cameras on the bus.
The incident happened this afternoon around 2.30 p.m. in bus 21 in the Nieuw-West district on the Ruys de Beerenbrouckstraat.
Violent incident
The driver is still in hospital. According to the spokesperson, it is waiting for the results of MRI scans that are made of him. The fact that those scans must be made does indicate how violent the incident is, said the spokesperson. “It’s terrible. We sympathize with the driver and his family. And other drivers do this a lot too.”

Chairman Pedro Peters of the OV-NL umbrella responded on Twitter to the incident: “Unimaginable. A lot of strength for all involved. We should never get used to this and must keep fighting it!”
As far as is known, no suspect has been arrested.
