The Austrian specialist for sensors and other optical solutions ams-OSRAM has made significant progress in LiDAR technology in recent weeks, which is of great importance for autonomous driving applications. ams-OSRAM presented a revolutionary 8-channel 915 nm SMT pulse laser that was specially designed for LiDAR systems.
Higher performance
This laser is designed to significantly increase the efficiency and reliability of LiDAR applications in autonomous driving. It is housed in a QFN package and offers an impressive peak optical power of 1000 watts at an efficiency of around 30%. This innovation allows system developers to choose from a variety of infrared components and significantly improves the navigation and data processing capabilities of autonomous vehicles.
Ams-Osram plans production expansions
ams-OSRAM recently announced plans to significantly expand its production capacity in Premstätten, Austria. This investment of EUR 588 million by 2030 is being implemented as part of the European Chips Act and aims to strengthen the European semiconductor industry and promote Europe’s technological sovereignty. Part of the newly created production capacity will be accessible to other companies and research institutions as an “open foundry”, which should further boost innovation in the region.
