Unemployment in the Schwechat region fell relatively significantly up to March. In the past two months, however, the job market has stagnated. After a minus of 0.5 percent in April, there was a slight decrease in the number of people registered as unemployed of 0.4 percent in May. A total of 1,677 people were looking for a job at the end of the previous month. The ratio between men and women is almost evenly balanced at 855 to 822 people affected. There are also 323 people in training.
According to Schwechat’s AMS boss Eva Wienerroither, the main reason for the abatement of the massive upswing of the past twelve months is the “weak economic growth”. However, the effects vary from industry to industry. While unemployment is declining, for example in trade or in health and social services, the number of job seekers with previous experience in the accommodation or catering sector as well as in construction or in the field of personnel leasing is stagnating or even increasing.
1,432 people found new jobs this year
Overall, however, unemployment in and around Schwechat is still at an extremely low level. If you compare the development from the end of April to the end of May, the decline is almost 50 people. And with 1,677 unemployed, it is only a few affected higher than the lowest record value of recent years. This was achieved in June of the previous year with 1,631 job seekers. “This year, 1,432 customers have already ended their unemployment by taking up work,” emphasizes Wienerroither.
The AMS relies specifically on “professional career and educational advice” – whether in person, by telephone or online. “These are playing a central role right now in order to be able to use personal skills that are so urgently needed on the job market,” says the AMS boss. In addition, the focus is on specialist training; this year, 49 people have already been able to start specialist training.
The number of vacancies remained high at the end of May with a value of 786 jobs. Although it was almost eleven percent more in the same month of the previous year. 25 apprenticeships are currently registered with the AMS, and 27 young people from the region are also looking for an apprenticeship.
