Among the Best in Travel 2021 awards of Lonely Planet also an Italian place

Like every year, Lonely Planet’s advice on emerging destinations and suggested trips for the year to come arrives on time. This year, however, in time of Covid, everything has changed, and so have the rankings. From quattro they are reduced to only one, which is not a real ranking but has only one winner per category.

Under a single hat, that of sustainability, the winners of the Best in Travel 2021 were elected, i.e. those trips – and also those people – that make the world a better place, for today and for the next generations.

Italy is also among the winners. Our country is the most beautiful journey in the world to be made in 2021. It is about Streets of Dante, a path of meditation in the footsteps of the Supreme Poet, an itinerary between Florence, his hometown, and Ravenna, his last residence, crossing the Apennines, the Po Valley from the picturesque landscapes of Tuscany to the boundless ones of Emilia Romagna.

Lonely Planet defines this path “An ode to the most celebrated literary legend in Italy”, passing through villages, medieval castles and Romanesque churches, iconic places of our beautiful country, in short.

The best wildlife program, that of Rwanda, for the protection of gorillas; the best emerging destination, Antigua and Barbuda; the best train trip, the Rocky Mountaineer in Canada, one of the most luxurious trains in the world; the best gastronomic destination, Greece; the best route to do by bicycle, the Virginia Mountain Bike Trail, almost 800 kilometers for an itinerary defined as “epic”; the best city to stay, Gothenburg (Sweden); the best islands, the archipelago of Palau in Micronesia; the most sustainable resort, the Grootberg Lodge which is located in Namibia.

But this year there is another novelty: among the winners there is also a person. This is the best storyteller: Soraya Abdel-Hadi who, through her blog and social profiles, tries to convince people to travel in a sustainable way.
