The interim results are frustrating: The Detroit Lions have lost all four games of the season and are considered one of the weakest teams in the NFL professional football league. After narrow defeats against three ambitious teams, it was now a painful defeat against division rivals Chicago Bears. And yet coach Dan Campbell found bright spots after the 14:24. He named “the good development of our young wide receivers” – and specifically Amon-Ra St. Brown, the rookie with roots in Leverkusen, as an example.
–
The 21-year-old convinced for the first time in his fourth NFL game. He caught six of the eight passes addressed to him and was responsible for 70 yards of space gained. Only Quintez Cephus (83 yards) exceeded this value. His two failed attempts were more likely to be attributed to quarterback Jared Goff, who had overpowered him in each case.
–
And so the only blemish was a 10-yard penalty because the referee believed that the recipient of the pass wanted to gain unauthorized advantages in the fight for a ball (pass interference). But he was able to more than make up for the mistake with a scene in which he showed unexpected qualities and saved his team from worse. After Goff lost the ball just before the Bears’ end zone, he stopped the counterattack with a courageous attack against Chicago superstar linebacker Khalil Mack.

With his strong performance, St. Brown not only made it into the highlight videos on the Lions homepage with a 17-yard catch, in which he was able to evade the stubborn defender, and then the slightly too short pass of his hard-pressed quarterback secure with a pike jump. He also found the right answer to all the doubters who wanted to write off the young receiver after the defeat by the Baltimore Ravens (with a field goal from the new record distance of 66 yards) because he only got the ball once for two in this game Yards gained space.
–
But ball distributor Goff and coach Campbell had subsequently taken St. Brown’s protection. “He’s always part of the game plan and we love giving him the ball,” assured the quarterback. That this did not happen so often was only due to the circumstances. The Lions head coach pointed out the great potential of his young receiver and praised him for “doing a lot of dirty work for us”. That could also be in demand on Sunday in the away game at the Vikings.

However, things are not going as well for his eldest brother Equanimeous. As a member of the Practice Squad of the Green Bay Packers, he was allowed to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers a second time this season, but remained pale. He took a ten yard penalty for a hold and dropped the only pass in his direction. The only noteworthy proof of work remained a good block and a tackle, which, however, were not included in the statistics because of a penalty against Pittsburgh.
–
Since the 25-year-old stepped in as a replacement for a professional on the Covid list on Sunday, he can be pulled up from the Practice Squad a third time. “EQ” officially replaced the D-Liner Tyler Lancaster, but was actually used for Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who is on the injured reserve list. The Packers used an exception in the NFL regulations, which actually provides that only two missions from the practice squad are allowed before a player either has to be fully appointed to the main squad or released for other clubs via the waiver list.
