Halloween is the time for horror, something Frictional Games knows all about. To mark the occasion, the studio has rolled out an update for Amnesia: The Bunker, with several nasty experiences for players to try out.
The update, which is available now on all platforms, introduces Shell Shock Mode. This is a new difficulty level that jacks up the challenges several notches.
First, the monster chasing you has new movement patterns, which should make it difficult to predict attacks. Furthermore, you have to bandage yourself to stop bleeding, fuses or codes are needed to open certain doors and you have to have petrol to save the game. In addition, you are no longer given a revolver from the start, but have to search for it.
Those who have made it through the game at least once also get access to a Custom mode. Here you can customize the experience as you wish, with over 30 different settings to make things easier or more difficult.
We really enjoyed Amnesia: The Bunker when it came out this summer. Reviewer Jørgen Bordal Andersen called the game a breath of fresh air for the series, and praised several of the innovations that came about.
– Not only does the game capture the essence of Amnesia in a good way, it develops the series further with new, exciting ideas. I can’t say I enjoyed all the 6 hours it took me to play through, and the story was probably not the most engaging in the series. The level design and the new mechanics still make Amnesia: The Bunker a clear recommendation, was the conclusion.
