Last weekend was marked by the discovery of ammunition in the Menkao district of Maluku. Which rekindles the concern of the local population.

Traffic has resumed regularly on the RN1, this important road that connects Kinshasa to the provinces of the former Bandundu, but concern is still strong.

Mayi, a policeman, has been assigned to Menkao for a few days: “ Look, it’s in these grasses that we found boxes of ammunition and some explosives “. Another discovery was made less than ten meters away: We also discovered here other ammunition boxes, canteens, but also other items related to explosives ».

Investigation in progress

In total, police recovered more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition from the three abandoned crates. There were also three explosives and cartridges. Where do these explosives and ammunition come from? Who do they belong to? Some sources refer to the attackers who came from Kwamouthbut the police are cautious and say an investigation is ongoing.

The population does not hide its concern. Jeannine is a saleswoman in Menkao. “ Last time, they discovered the ammunition. We saw and we were afraid. My family who are downtown asked me to leave this area. I stayed anyway. We need security reinforcements. If we, who are in the capital, are uncomfortable, then imagine inside the country… »

For its part, the police announces that it will deploy new units in this area in the coming days.
