Astrology for Muslims
Astronomy is a science that studies the trajectories (orbits) of celestial bodies which is part of Astronomy, which only studies 3 celestial bodies, namely the earth, moon, and sun.
The discussion of astronomy studied in Islam is related to the implementation of worship and social activities.
In general, astronomy studies 4 fields, namely:
1. The direction of Qibla and the shadow of the direction of Qibla, from studying Astronomy can be known how to determine the direction of Qibla prayer.
2. Prayer times, from studying astronomy, it is possible to know the difference in time on the earth’s surface and can determine prayer times which vary in various places and change throughout the year.
3. The beginning of the month, from studying Astronomy can be known the determination of the beginning of the Hijri month.
4. Eclipses, from studying astronomy, it is possible to know the position of celestial bodies between one another. Such as the distance between the moon and the sun which when in position can be a solar eclipse or a lunar eclipse.
OIF SMOKE
Observations of celestial bodies are usually carried out in an observatory. Thus the Universe Literacy agenda was carried out at the UMSU Astronomical Sciences Observatory (OIF) by the Muhammadiyah Bandar Selamat Youth Literacy Volunteers on Thursday (14/4) or 13 Ramadan 1443 Hijriyah.

In it, participants are invited to sit and listen to a series of simulation videos of celestial bodies played by OIF, the Planetarium Team. Starting from a short video introduction to OIF itself, Earth, Moon, Sun Software Video which contains an explanation of the benefits of Astronomy for Qibla direction accuracy and so on, as well as an animated video introduction to Planets in the Solar System which makes it very easy for children to recognize objects. the sky.
After listening to the entire explanation of the simulation video which lasted approximately 30 minutes in the Planetarium room, then the tour participants were directed to the Astronomical Instruments room. Where in this room can be seen various kinds of astronomical tools that are useful for observing celestial bodies. Like various types of binoculars, both modern binoculars and classic binoculars, including a Pin Hole to see the sun, Obscura binoculars, there is also Rubu’ Al Mujayyab which is a Classical Astronomer Analog Calculator and so on. In addition to listening to explanations and seeing astronomical instruments, in this room the participants were also given the opportunity to try out the uses of these various tools under the supervision and direction of the Planetarium Team.
After being satisfied in the Astronomical Instruments room in accordance with the directions of the Planetarium Team as a tour guide, the participants left the room to the OIF page to see for themselves what the sun actually looks like through a telescope. The participants are welcome to climb the Sliding Roof which is the house of the telescope, where each two participants take turns observing the sun. In the Sliding Roof, participants were directed to put their eyes in the direction of the telescope lens and they could see the shape of the sun from the lens, which is bright orange and very close.
While waiting in line to observe the sun with a telescope, other participants are also welcome to see the sun directly with the help of special glasses. These glasses are worn like wearing glasses in general, then the head is turned towards the sun and it can be seen clearly how the shape of the sun which is colored orange is lit.
Some of the tour participants who have experienced observations also have a look at the Miniature Solar System which is available next to the Sliding Roof. This Miniature Solar System is in 3D form and is an imitation of the real planets that can be used as a direct learning medium.
As the closing of the series of activities, the participants along with all members of the Bandar Selamat Muhammadiyah Youth Force who took part in the tour were given the opportunity to take pictures in front of the UMSU OIF Icon as a memory of having visited and felt the universe tour well.
