MEXICO CITY (apro).- Andrés Manuel López Obrador was afraid of Donald Trump when he was president of the United States, said Republican Senator Ted Cruz.
In statements to the American chain Fox News, the Texas legislator also criticized the president of the United States, Joe Biden, in the context of the kidnapping of four Americans in Matamoros, in which two were allegedly murdered by the Gulf Cartel.
Ted Cruz told Fox News that serious action must be taken against “narcoterrorists” and considered that the kidnappings and assassinations would not have happened if it were not for the shortage of presidential leadership in the United States.
“Joe Biden created chaos at the border. Joe Biden stopped building the wall. He reinstated the catch and release system, and withdrew the Stay in Mexico program,” Cruz charged.
“Joe Biden and the Democrats are responsible for turning these ruthless killers into billionaires. We need to bankrupt them. We need to put them out of business, and the people responsible for these murders must be brought to justice,” the senator said.
“President Biden is the best thing that has happened to the Mexican drug cartels. If we had real leadership, cartels wouldn’t be killing Americans, fentanyl wouldn’t be coming into our country, and our southern border would be safe,” he remarked.
Cruz was questioned about the proposal of his counterpart Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, who announced that he will present an initiative to facilitate US military intervention against the cartels.
“Let me be clear. Lindsey is my buddy, but I’m not with him. The answer is not to invade Mexico. I don’t think the answer is to just go to war with whatever country you’re mad at,” Cruz said.
He explained that former President Donald Trump was able to reduce the effects of the cartels through tough diplomacy with the current president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
“When Donald Trump was president, AMLO, who is the same anti-American leftist that he is now, was afraid of Donald Trump,” Cruz said.
“AMLO accepted the Stay in Mexico agreement. AMLO put soldiers on the southern border of Mexico and we ended up having the lowest rate of illegal immigration in 45 years. The reason why this is so bad is that AMLO thinks that Joe Biden is a coward,” said the former candidate of the Republican Party for the Presidency.
Cruz referred to statements by López Obrador in front of Biden during the last Mexico-EU-Canada summit.
“You should see the press conference that AMLO did with Biden, where AMLO stands there, and in Spanish he boastfully says: ‘Joe Biden, he is the first president, Republican or Democrat, who has not built a meter of border wall.’ . ”
The war against Mexico is not the answer, Cruz concluded.
