AMLO urges the Court to resolve Salinas Pliego’s tax debts

Mexico City. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador yesterday urged the Judiciary to resolve the appeals regarding tax debts of the Salinas Group and its owner, Ricardo Salinas Pliego, so that there is quick and expeditious justice.

He warned that since his government’s differences arose with Salinas Pliego over his debts, Televisión Azteca has launched a campaign of disqualification of public policies.

In his conference on Thursday, the president ironically used the term governmentwhich Salinas Pliego uses to refer disparagingly to public officials.

López Obrador called the businessman’s campaign very vulgar, rude and unfair, in which he takes advantage of a media outlet that has a public concession.

He also addressed the businessman’s criticism: “I would be ashamed, I say this sincerely, without offending, I would be ashamed, to get on one of those yachts in a country with so much poverty. But everyone is free…”

The president summarized the litigation for alleged tax debts of Salinas Pliego: a package of just over 20 billion pesos, which the Supreme Court of Justice returned to a court for resolution and another set of cases totaling between 40 and 50 thousand millions of pesos of unpaid taxes.

He recalled that in the first case, Minister Luis María Aguilar kept the file for nine months, until forced by circumstances he had to put it to a vote. The majority decided to return it to court.

Debt on unclaimed accounts

He also spoke about other conflicts involving the businessman, such as the fate of a golf course in Huatulco, whose land will be declared a protected natural area, and a debt from Afore Azteca, which has not transferred some billion pesos from unregistered accounts to Social Security. claimed.

In a criticism of Salinas Pliego’s predilections for yachts and luxuries, López Obrador contrasted them with his own motivations for happiness: I am happy with other things: reading a book, eating a bean with chicharrón, a tlacoyo.
