President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that his government he will no longer insist on negotiation to approve his initiative for constitutional reform in electoral matters, but will bet on a legal reformbecause he accused that there are many interests, and the opposition, he pointed out, thinks that if it stays with the INE as it is, it will have an instrument for fraud.
At the press conference, the President specified that the opposition does not want there to be no more plurinominal deputies, that the councilors of the INE and the magistrates of the Electoral Tribunal are elected by the people and not by the parties and they do not even accept, he said, that the officials of the Electoral Institute no longer earn as much and that there are savings.
“No, the decision has already been made, they don’t want to approve the reform. What don’t they want? Let the budget be small. What don’t they want? That instead of 500 deputies there are 300 so that the so-called plurinominals do not exist and that they are all directly elected.

“What is it that they don’t accept? That the councilors of the INE and the magistrates of the Electoral Tribunal are chosen by the people and not by the parties. What do they not accept? That the officials of the INE no longer earn so much, that they save so much they do not accept that, since they do not accept it, we present a law that without violating the Constitution, which it establishes, allows us to obtain savings so that it is not as expensive as organizing elections. It is good that for now it will no longer be possible to carry out the constitutional reform, but a legal reform will be presented, ”he said.
“Will the negotiation no longer be insisted on?”, he was asked.

“No, it’s not that they have many interests and they think that if they stay with the INE as it is, they can count on one fraud tool. They are completely wrong, people no longer accept scams and money because the reform of the Constitution that we have proposed is to reduce the parties’ money.
“It is understandable that this corrupt elite defends the electoral fraud because they committed one, two, three, 10, 20 frauds. Also for decades, what is unfortunate is that it is not only this elite, those who prevent a constitutional reform to fully enforce democracy, but who deceive millions,” she said.
