President Andrés Manuel López Obrador condemned the arbitrary and unconstitutional claim of two judges who granted injunctions to stop the discussion of judicial reform in Congress. “Acting in an irresponsible and contradictory manner, they dare to promote actions that invade the powers of the Legislative Branch.
“They also violate the Constitution. Imagine the Judiciary, which is charged with strictly adhering to the Constitution and the laws, becoming the most tenacious violator of the Constitution and the laws,” López Obrador said during his press conference.
In assessing the process of judicial reform, he said that not only the Constitution in its article 135, the Amparo Law, in its article 61 and the Jurisprudence of the Judicial Branch prevent this body from getting involved in stopping legislative processes to approve constitutional reforms.
“That is why people may have had some doubts at the beginning, but now everything is very clear. They talk about the rule of law and it is a crooked state and it is no longer strictly legal, it is a matter, to put it clearly, political, but in reality politicking because there are already figures who oppose politics involved.”
López Obrador once again questioned the corruption and nepotism that characterize the Judiciary. There is a lot of corruption within the judiciary because they are there only to serve those at the top of the economic power, political power and organized crime.
“What do they say? Not everyone can be a judge. Why not if they meet the requirements? Is it more complex to be a judge than to be President of the Republic? Why is the president elected, or the governor of a state or the mayor of a municipality? Is it more complicated to be a judge than to be a mayor, governor or President?”
López Obrador asserted that if he elects the judges, they will know for certain that they are representatives of the people. That they owe their position to the citizens, not to vested interest groups. This will help a lot to ensure that justice is imparted honestly and to clean up the judiciary, which has been corrupt for some time now.
“It was not only influence, but they formed groups and it has been proven that there are many family members. It is the power with the most nepotism. Brothers, nephews, children, fathers, mothers work there. It seems like the DIF, it is the power of the family. That is what is being debated, they do not want Mexicans to elect the judges.”
The president said that during the session in Congress, the PRI faction argued that they would withdraw in order not to validate the violation of the mandate of the judges who are ordering a halt to the discussion in Congress. They are withdrawing in order to validate the factional and illegal, unconstitutional interference of the Judicial Branch in decisions that correspond only to the legislative branch.
And he asked: “Where are the conservative constitutionalists? They don’t say anything. Imagine if it were a matter of us…”
