AMLO and Sheinbaum deliver 1,600 property titles in Quintana Roo

Solidarity, QR., During a private tour of the Maya Train, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador settled an old debt with 1,600 families who have lived in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood for decades, after giving them their property titles. It was hard work, he acknowledged, because at first there was a rheumatic and crafty elephant, but now it can walk and the situation of these families has been regularized.

López Obrador claimed the goal of prioritizing the most disadvantaged sectors, which, despite the pain of the pandemic and the economic impact it had, managed to reduce poverty. He highlighted that this week, the World Bank recognized that the policies implemented allowed more than nine million Mexicans to escape poverty, “I am very happy with that…” he added before assuming himself as a stubborn, persevering man.

As part of her latest transition tours, President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted that this event – held at the Playa del Carmen station of the Mayan Train – was significant due to the confluence of two aspects of her government: “this great work, the Mayan Train that goes around the peninsula that President López Obrador made a reality, is not isolated or far from its people.”

“A historic promise is being fulfilled here. These deeds are being handed over to the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood. That is, in parallel with a project for the benefit of national development, the people are being served. It is development from below, shared prosperity,” said the president-elect.

After highlighting the efforts of the López Obrador government to promote a profound transformation, Sheinbaum said that “it is up to us, the second floor of this fourth transformation. We are living a historic transition, this moment in which the president is in his last days….”

Although people responded to the president-elect with a chorus of “no!”, Sheinbaum added that “Andrés Manuel López Obrador will always be with us in our hearts and in history.”

“When have we ever seen the president be generous and invite us to inaugurate works and projects? This is possible because we are part of a transformation project.” In short, the president-elect confirmed that all the programs will continue, “which will be incorporated into the Constitution so that they are social rights.”

In her speech, the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, highlighted the importance of delivering deeds to 1,600 families who had been demanding land regularization for decades. She considered that overcoming this social conflict implied facing litigation with the company Desarrolladora de la Riviera Maya, which is a central part of her government on the path to paying off social debts, which in this case puts an end to a history of uncertainty for the Colosio colony.
