Philippine Rains Expected: Luzon Braces for Potential Flooding
The Philippines is bracing for heavy rainfall adn strong winds as a northeast monsoon, known locally as Amihan, and a shear line converge over Luzon, the country’s largest island. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a warning Monday afternoon, advising residents to prepare for potential flooding and landslides.
According to PAGASA’s forecast, the Amihan will bring cloudy skies and rain to Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora province. simultaneously occurring, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes provinces are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line. These conditions could lead to “moderate to at times heavy rains,” increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides.
While the Ilocos Region and the rest of Central Luzon are expected to see partly cloudy skies with isolated light rain, the impact is anticipated to be minimal. Metro Manila and the remaining areas of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized weather systems. These severe thunderstorms also pose a risk of flash floods and landslides.
Northern Luzon is expected to experience strong winds and rough coastal waters.Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are also predicted for the eastern sections of Central and Southern luzon, and the Visayas. the rest of the country will see lighter winds and calmer seas.
