The second night of america’s got talent Season 17 auditions included country singer and Elvis impersonator Drake Milligan. The audience and judges enjoyed every second of Milligan’s energetic performance with his band. And although Drake Milligan was a new face for AGT fans, he probably looked familiar to the faithful American idol viewers. That’s because, in 2018, Milligan impressed the Idol judges with an audition, only to disappear for Hollywood Week. This is what happened.
Drake Milligan auditioned for the 16th season of ‘American Idol’ and received a ticket to Hollywood
Milligan previously appeared on American idol Season 16 at age 19. The Fort Worth, Texas native revealed that he became interested in Elvis Presley at age 10, which inspired him to take music lessons. Eventually, he began performing publicly as an Elvis impersonator, even landing a role as the iconic singer in 2017. sun records on CMT (via IMDb).
However, the more time Milligan spent performing, the more he was drawn to country music. So Milligan came to American idol hoping to start a career as himself.
Milligan auditioned for Idol with “You Look So Good in Love” by George Strait. Judge Luke Bryan told Milligan that she “crushed him”, while Lionel Richie praised Milligan for how comfortable she seemed. Katy Perry called Milligan “a star in the making.” The judges handed Milligan a golden ticket and sent him to Hollywood, but she never showed up.
Why did Drake Milligan leave ‘American Idol’?
It is not unusual for American idol singers to quietly disappear after their audition. Sometimes they go into Hollywood Week and don’t make it to the next round, so Idol he doesn’t show them on TV. In other cases, the show may have to make cuts before Hollywood Week because they sent too many people. However, many fans thought Milligan had great potential, so they were confused by her absence.
Fortunately, Milligan took to Instagram to set the record straight, revealing that she dropped out of the competition after the audition.
“I got a lot of questions about me no longer appearing on American idol after my audition, i just thought i’d tell everyone what’s going on! he wrote. “After my audition, I decided I wasn’t ready for that platform yet and it would be a better move for me to move to Nashville and focus on my music first.”
Milligan added that her “difficult decision” to resign had nothing to do with the audition process.
“Everyone on the show was so nice, and I feel absolutely blessed and grateful to have been a part of this!” he continued.
Milligan kept his word and headed to Nashville. In 2021, she released her first self-titled EP with BBR Music Group. Additionally, she released a single called “Cowgirl for Christmas.”
The country singer got another chance on season 17 of ‘America’s Got Talent’
Now, Milligan feels ready to try his hand at a singing competition again. He and his band appeared on AGT Season 17, episode 2 with its original song, “Sounds Like Something I’d Do”. The crowd immediately loved him, and judges Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel couldn’t help but smile from him. Simon Cowell kept a more serious expression, but even the famous critical judge seemed impressed.
After the performance, the audience gave Milligan’s group a standing ovation. Mandel called Milligan “the new Elvis of country” and said her song could become a hit. Meanwhile, Klum said the band was “perfect for america’s got talent.” All the judges said yes and Milligan was sent to the next round. And this time, he seems willing to move on.
