On May 27, one day after being crowned Liga champion with América, Uruguayan footballer Brian Rodríguez was accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in Mexico City. This scandal has generated a great controversy and has significantly affected the Uruguayan midfielder.

In a recent interview with Radio Sport 890, a media outlet in Uruguay, Brian Rodríguez addressed the delicate situation he faces.

“Those who know me know that I wouldn’t do such a thing. A lot, I had a very bad time with that issue. I went to the Copa America with the issue already being exploited in Mexico,” Rodríguez said when asked about how these accusations have impacted his family.

Rodriguez said he and his attorneys are working hard to resolve the issue.

“I was very upset because they used my image and things that were not real, I don’t know what the Mexican justice system is based on. To this day I have my lawyers completing the matter to finalize it,” said the footballer, expressing his frustration with the situation.

The midfielder also commented on the negative impact that the accusations have had on his daily life and on his presence on social media. “It is very ugly to live with that, even more so today seeing how things are on social media, where I think that in the eyes of everyone you are guilty until proven otherwise. That is very ugly, but I always relied on my family,” added Rodríguez, highlighting the unconditional support of his loved ones during this difficult time.

Despite the seriousness of the accusations, Rodriguez said he now feels calmer. “Those who know me know that I would not do such a barbaric act. My family had a very bad time. Behind every person, there is a family. It was a very difficult issue, I was able to fix it and I am calmer today,” concluded the footballer.

On the sporting front, Brian Rodríguez demonstrated his quality in the Leagues Cup Round of 16 match against St Louis City SC, where he contributed with a double in América’s 4-2 victory. This excellent performance could secure him a place in Brazilian coach André Jardine’s starting eleven for the Leagues Cup Quarterfinal match against Colorado Rapids, which will be played this Saturday at 8:00 p.m.

While the allegations against him are being resolved, Brian Rodriguez remains focused on his football career, seeking to maintain his performance on the field and earn the trust of his team and fans.
