The next Friday, February 17thwill reach Spanish cinemas, by the hand of Against the Current Films, ‘America’s Sweetheart’a comedy directed by Alfonso Albacete (‘I will survive’) and produced by Litmus y Animal by Light Films.
The film, which is a co-production between Spain and Mexico, has a cast headed by Miren Ibarguren, Guinness Garcia Millan, Paul Monen, Eduardo Casanova, Pepa Charro, Diana Bovio, Christian Vazquez and Maribel Guardiaamong others.
‘La novia de América’, which also includes the participation of Movistar Plus+ y Heartbeat Films in charge of international sales, was shot in mid-2021 in Xochimilcothe historic center of the Mexico City y Pamplona.
It’s a comedy inspired by a true story: «everything begins the day that I received a call from my father telling me that he was marrying a Mexican woman thirty years younger who I had met online and who invited me to his wedding. The story my own father gave me served as a perfect excuse to talk about topics that really interest me, like the difference is what makes us unique. If prejudices are eliminated, these differences allow us to enrich ourselves in values and can serve to understand each other better and be more tolerant“, says the director and screenwriter, Alfonso Albacete.
Synopsis
Wella young Spanish woman whose boyfriend has just abandoned her, and Applicationhis brother, they receive surprising news: their father is marrying a woman he met online. They decide to travel to Mexico to attend the wedding, but what they find there is not what they expected.
Rous, the bride, is not only younger than thembut their large Mexican family, from a popular and noisy neighborhood, headed by Lupe, the mother, has prepared them a welcome that you will not forget in your life. Above all Wellwhat will meet Horacio, the bride’s irresistible brother, a Mexican who is capable of making her very, very nervous.
