America’s allies are at odds over the Red Sea escort – 2024-03-03 05:09:30

/ world today news/ The United States has announced that a total of 20 countries will participate in the “Red Sea Escort Alliance”, but currently Spain, Italy and France have clearly stated that they do not want to act under the leadership of the United States, and the rest of the countries will send token few employees to participate in the operation. At least 8 other countries do not want to be openly involved.

Spain’s defense ministry said it would only take part in NATO- or EU-led acts and “will not unilaterally take part in the Red Sea operation”. And according to Italy’s Ministry of Defense, the deployment of the navy was “at the request of Italian shipowners” to protect Italy’s national interests. France’s defense ministry has said it supports free navigation in the Red Sea and its surrounding waters, but its fleet must be under French command.

Reuters commented that due to the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, the escort operation in the Red Sea is of high political sensitivity.
