Americans will send officials

The diplomatic boycott decided by the Biden administration will not prevent the United States from sending a few dozen state officials to the Beijing Games. According to the Chinese daily South China Morning Post, citing an anonymous source, Washington has asked Chinese authorities for visas for 18 US officials. Fifteen of them would be members of the State Department, another would be a Pentagon employee. These would be officials of intermediate or lower rank, sent to China to ensure the protection of the US Olympic and Paralympic delegation during the Beijing 2022 Winter Games. South China Morning Post, the United States plans to apply for three-month visas for 40 other officials in the final weeks before the Games start.
