According to the Japanese Ministry of Health, the virus has now been detected by 130 passengers of the Diamond Princess. There are approximately 3700 people on board, including five Dutchmen. Everyone is in quarantine.
The couple does not feel safe aboard the ship. “There is still a lot unclear about the virus, including how it spreads,” says Gay Courter. “We are afraid that the virus will spread through the air conditioning. I am 75 and my husband is 77. We are very worried because we are in the high-risk group.”
“Like we’re in a bad movie”
The Courters both suffer from nightmares. The whole situation is frightening, Gay says. “This morning we looked out from our balcony and saw thirty to forty ambulances, fire trucks and military vehicles. We saw people running around in protective suits. It’s like we ended up in a bad movie.”
