The “Train Songs” or “Railroad Songs” are one of the most important sub-genres in American folk, country and blues music and a myth-rich part of Americana. For “Record Store Day, Black Friday” on November 26th, one will be released Double LP with reinterpretations of classic Railroad songs. There are among others John Fogerty, Dave Alvin, Dom Flemons and Dustbowl Revival. The legendary singer-songwriter and producer Carla Olson, who has worked with music greats such as Bob Dylan, Ry Cooder and Mick Taylor, is responsible for the production of the compilation.
The collection consists of 19 classic and original Railroad songs by a variety of Americana and be sung by rock artists. None of these tracks have been released before and most are innovative versions of the well-known songs. Together they tell a story about the interface between railroad history and popular music in America.
That Americana Railroad Album is a double LP package released by BMG Renew Records. It was designed by Saul Davis with the help of David Hirshland and produced by Carla Olson.
About Record Story Day, Black Friday: Record Store Day is International Independent Record Store Day and is held on the 3rd Saturday in April each year. Every year 3,000 record stores worldwide take part in Record Store Day and offer around 500 special releases specially produced for the RSD. The day has been celebrated in German-speaking countries since 2012. For several years now, the makers in the USA have been organizing a “Black Friday Record Store Day” in November in addition to the RSD in April. target of Black Friday RSD is to offer a contrast to the annual shopping madness in the USA. Fine, limited special editions in small indie stores instead of mass sales is the motto.
