American WWII Veteran, Jack Hausman, to Receive Legion of Honor at 101 Years Old

Jack Hausman, an American veteran of the Second World War, will receive the Legion of Honor at the age of 101. A ceremony that continues the policy led by Jacques Chirac. In 2004, the French president decided to award the Legion of Honor to all American veterans of World War II who fought on French soil.

Jack Hausman entered the United States Army at the age of 20. He was assigned to General George S. Patton’s 40th Combat Engineer Regiment. His mission was to clear mines, build bridges or roads to transport supplies and weapons to the American army. As a soldier, Jack Hausman has seen many causes of war. He fought in Algeria, Naples, Foggia, Sicily, Rome, the south of France, Central Europe and the Rhineland.

For all his services, Jack Hausman will receive the Legion of Honor, France’s highest distinction, at a ceremony on April 26, 2024. “We believe it is our duty to thank the heroes who helped to liberating our country during the Second World War, while we. still can. We owe them our freedom, our democracy and our way of life.” the comments of the French consul general in New York, Damien Leban. The ceremony will be held at Jack Hausman’s home in Queens.
