American Writers’ Union and Hollywood Studios Continue Negotiations: Day 144 of the Strike

Sep 23, 2023 at 7:07 AM Update: 2 hours ago

The American writers’ union and representatives of the largest Hollywood studios continued negotiations on Friday. No agreement had yet been announced at the end of Friday, now the 144th day of the strike.

Bosses from The Walt Disney Company, Netflix and other major producers attended negotiations with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) for the third day in a row.

The more than 11,000 screenwriters affiliated with this organization have been on strike since the beginning of May. They demand, among other things, better rewards and rules for the use of artificial intelligence.

In mid-July, actors from SAG-AFTRA also stopped work. SAG-AFTRA is the union representing approximately 160,000 television and film personalities. Filming of many films and series has been halted for some time due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes.

It is the first time in fifteen years that screenwriters have gone on strike en masse. Even if the writers agree to a deal, the actors’ strike would continue. As far as we know, there have been no recent negotiations between the studios and the actors’ union.
