Apple’s upcoming MagSafe Duo charger has been officially approved by the US communications watchdog, the FCC. That means that the accessory will probably not be long in coming. The Apple website still states that the product will be available ‘soon’.
On the website of the FCC the MagSafe Duo is described as a “Two Coil Charger”, with model number A2458. The manufacturer is of course Apple. The document provided by Apple explains how to use the device as a wireless charger for your iPhone and an Apple Watch. It is therefore intended that you supply both devices with power at the same time. The documents were provided by the Cupertino company last October and were approved by the government agency yesterday, November 9. So it looks like the accessory will be hitting the market soon, at least in the US.
The MagSafe Duo charger
Apple announced the MagSafe Duo charger last month during the presentation of the iPhone 12 line. To date, however, the company has yet to tell when the device will actually be for sale. Since last week, the wireless charger is also on the official Apple website, but there is also no release date stated there. Under the text Coming Soon there is a price tag of $ 129. We simply do not know more than that, so now we have to wait for Apple to announce more about the accessory.
It is difficult to predict when Apple will do that or when the accessory will be available for purchase. There have been times when the iPad Air 4 received approval from the FCC on October 15 and was officially on sale from October 23. However, this does not guarantee the future, but it does show that the company can switch quickly. Hands-on previews of the MagSafe Duo have already appeared here and there, and the consensus is that the price tag is probably too high. Nevertheless, the device does what you expect it to do.
