An American warship and several commercial ships came under fire off the coast of Yemen on Sunday afternoon. It is not clear whether the ships were hit.
The US Department of Defense says it is aware of incidents in the Red Sea region. Houthi rebels from Yemen claim responsibility for the attacks. According to the rebel group, in addition to the American ship, these are Israeli ships.
The Pentagon has not said anything about the origins of the attacks. The British Navy previously reported receiving reports of drone attacks in the Red Sea area.
Houthi rebels hijacked several Israeli ships in the Red Sea last week. The Houthis previously joined the Palestinians in the war with Israel.
