This Friday, after three days of intense search, Neha Malla, the 40-year-old American tourist who had been missing since Tuesday near Mount Fitz Roy, in the Los Glaciares National Park, was found dead in El Chaltén, sources confirmed. the National Parks Administration (APN).

After a search operation that involved 160 people, they found the lifeless body near Laguna de las Mellizas. The authorities indicated that an Argentine Army helicopter “is waiting for the weather conditions to improve to go to the place with an expert, a National Gendarmerie officer and medical personnel from the El Chaltén Health Post to carry out the corresponding actions and thus be able to later transfer the body”.

“From the National Park we accompany Neha’s relatives in this painful and sad moment. And we thank everyone who participated in this rescue and the Municipality of El Chaltén that collaborated in the logistics,” they expressed.

Neha Malla had been last seen on Tuesday, November 28 at 9 in the morning in the vicinity of the Fitz Roy River Bridge. According to Jorge Lenz, from the Lago Viedma section of National Parks, the woman got lost when there was rain and wind in the area.

That same day, nearly a hundred rescuers from National Parks and the Relief Commission mobilized to search for her in an area known as “Pliegue Tumbado.” From National Parks they detailed that the search was focused on the valley of the Fitz Roy River, which joins the Torre trails and the South and East slopes of the Loma del Pliegue Tumbado, that is, about 53 square km.

It is a very extensive, wild, wooded and steppe terrain, which involved very exhaustive search work that included observation, the use of whistles and raking between paths, water courses, logs and rocks.
