SAALBACH – American skier Mikaela Shiffrin will definitely not take part in the World Cup final in Sunday’s giant slalom.

She announced it on the social network Facebook on Thursday evening. The Austrian Saalbach will be the venue for the finals of the World Cup of women’s and male skiers.

“Thank you very much for the birthday wishes. Of course, I hoped that I would be able to start in the giant slalom this season. However, we do not have time to prepare for Sunday’s race. I am looking forward to the next slalom and then to the preparation for the next season.” wrote Shiffrin.

A twenty-nine-year-old American woman was injured in a downhill race in Cortina d’Ampezzo at the end of January. She is back in action since the weekend event in Are, where she defended the small crystal globe in slalom, but she will not start in other disciplines in the current season.

This year was marked by injuries to several favorites, including Slovakian Petra Vlhová, who tore her anterior cruciate ligament at the home event in Jasná. Shiffrinová started this season as the defender of the big globe and two small ones for slalom and “obrak”. He has 16 titles in his collection, of which five are total.
