On the way from the American city of Chicago to Iceland, the woman developed a sore throat, so she decided to use a self-test that was brought along.
Positive within two seconds
“I took my test, took it to the toilet and within what felt like two seconds, two lines appeared (indicating a positive test result,” said Marisa Fotieo, the woman in question. NBC News.
When she tested positive, she didn’t hesitate and immediately locked herself in one of the plane’s toilet cubicles. There she remained for the remaining five hours of the flight.

Fotieo managed to survive with the help of a flight attendant, she says. “She made sure I had everything I needed for those five hours, from food to drink, and was constantly checking to see how I was doing.”
‘Crazy experience’
Fotieo calls it ‘crazy experience’. “There were 150 people on board, and my biggest fear was giving them the virus.”
It Tiktok video that she made from her plight has since been viewed millions of times. On arrival in Iceland, Fotieo was accommodated in a Red Cross hotel.
