Singer Ashanti, known for hits like “Happy” and “Foolish”, and rapper Nelly have welcomed a son. Ashanti recently shared the news on Instagram, posting a picture and video of herself in her underwear, expressing her pride in her post-pregnancy body. She captioned the photo, “This is me four weeks postpartum.” The proud parents confirmed the news to People Magazine. Their son, Kareem Kenkaide Hayes, was born on July 18. The couple announced their pregnancy in April.
This is Ashanti’s first child. Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes, is already the father of two grown children and has also adopted two children from his late sister, who died of leukemia in 2005. Ashanti and Nelly were a couple for many years, but separated and only found each other again last year.
Ashanti rose to fame almost overnight with her debut album “Ashanti” in 2002. The R&B singer and songwriter also made a career in film and television, including “Coach Carter” (2005), “Resident Evil: Extinction” (2007) and “Army Wives” (2013).
