American Scriptwriters Union Meets Film Studios and Streaming Services for First Time Since Strike

The American scriptwriters union will talk to the film studios and streaming services on Friday. It is the first time that the parties have met again since the scriptwriters’ strike began on May 2.

According to American media, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents film studios and streaming services, has requested talks with the American scriptwriters union Writers Guild of America (WGA).

The writers are striking, among other things, because they want better wages and because they want studios to negotiate rules regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in making films and series.

American actors are also on strike. They laid down their work more than two weeks ago because, among other things, they want to be better rewarded for showing films and series on streaming services. They also want agreements to be made about the use of AI.

Fran Drescher, the president of the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA, said in the program on Tuesday The Today Show that she fears that the actors’ strike will continue for months. “I don’t have a crystal ball,” said the 65-year-old actress. “But we have prepared financially for another six months on strike. And we are doing this to win.”

Due to the strikes, countless productions in Hollywood have come to a standstill.
