American Researcher Detained at Moscow Airport for Smuggling $100,000

Akif Ibragimov, an American, was detained at Moscow’s Vnukovo airport for trying to smuggle more than $100,000 into Russia. Baza reports.

“Customs officers stopped 71-year-old Akif Ibragimov in Vnukovo on August 2 while passing through the green corridor. He had more than 100,000 dollars with him, which he did not declare, ”the message on the Baza telegram channel says.

Akif Ibragimov is a chief researcher at the Institute of Oil and Gas Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He also works at Texas Tech University.
