The American ski jumper Patrick Gasienica died on Monday in a traffic accident, aged 24.
This is stated by the American Show Jumping Team. They describe Gasienica as an incredible athlete, teammate and friend.
“He will be sorely missed,” USA Nordic writes Twitter.
According to the AP, Gasienica died in a motorcycle accident Monday night in the village of Bull Valley outside Chicago. He was from Oak Park and started his jumping career at the club Norge Ski Club.
In the Olympics in Beijing last year, Gasienica was number 49 and 53 in the two individual competitions. He also took 10th place in the men’s team competition.
Gasienica’s last competition was a continental cup race in March, which was won by the Norwegian Benjamin Østvold. There, the American was number 38.
