American newspapers drop the cartoon Dilbert after accusations of racism

DILBERT: Scott Adams, the creator of the popular cartoon strip Dilbert, is about to be canceled after what have been perceived as racist statements.

Several major newspapers in the US drop publication of Dilbert cartoon strips after Dilbert creator Scott Adams is accused of racism.

Scott Adams (65) has called black Americans a hate group and suggested that white Americans should stay away from black people, reports the Reuters news agency.

The statements came as a comment on a poll by Rasmussen Poll in which black voters in the US were asked whether they disagreed or agreed with the statement: “It’s ok to be white”.

26 percent said they disagreed. Another 21 percent said they were not sure.

The civil rights organization Anti-Defamation League has called the phrase, which originated as trolling on the online forum 4chan, a ” hateful slogan ».

– If almost half of all black people say it is not ok to have white people around them, then it is a hate group. And then I want nothing to do with them, Adams said on his YouTube channel on Wednesday.

Dilbert is a cartoon that Adams launched in 1989 and which makes fun of office culture. On Friday and Saturday, major newspapers such as the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post and USA Today affiliates announced that they will no longer print the popular comic strips.

Adams was not available for comment to Reuters on Saturday. But on YouTube he confirms that the comic strips have been dropped. He also says that he expected it to happen.

– By Monday I should mostly be cancelled. So most of my income is gone by next week. My reputation is ruined for the rest of my life. There is no way to recover from this, says Adams.

Adams said in the video that he encouraged people to get away from black people, and he encouraged other whites to do the same.

– I am not saying that you should start a war or something like that. I’m just saying you should get away, he said.
