According to Richard Pappas, Stephen Sondheim died suddenly Friday morning at his home in Roxbury, Connecticut (northeast of the country), after celebrating Thanksgiving with his friends the day before.

Sondheim was one of Broadway’s best-known composers and screenwriters with musicals such as West Side Story (he wrote the screenplay, Leonard Bernstein composed the music), Gypsy and Sweeney Todd. He was also one of only a handful of composers to write both lyrics and music for musicals.
