Ryan Manigo, a 33-year-old American, was charged Monday with homicide and attempted homicide, local authorities said. The day before, the police had found six bodies in a burning house in Green Pond, South Carolina.
Two of the victims have been identified as the suspect’s daughter and sister-in-law, aged 11 and 50 respectively. During a press conference taken over by the American television channel CBS, the authorities announced that the autopsy had revealed on the corpse of these two victims stab wounds. The man is also suspected of having wanted to kill a 13-year-old boy who survived the fire and whose identity has not been revealed.
Life imprisonment incurred
Some relatives of the victims’ families have reacted publicly. “I just want to know why he did this,” said one. “I want them to sentence you to capital punishment because what you are doing has brought us death,” protested another relative.
The sheriff of Colleton County, where the tragedy occurred, says for the time being that he has not found a motive. The county attorney said the suspect could face life in prison.
